Design Statement

A Wonderful Day at the beginning of design process, there was no such thing as a script, the challenge was: how to bring 19 ordinary people together talking about their own stories for an hour on a theatre stage .
This performance was designed with the use of audio transmitting devices and headphones , in order to create an unique spectator experience.
19 performers were telling their own stories simultaneously on the stage, creating 19 hubbubs of voices. Each story was broadcasted on a particular frequency channel through shortwave. With a simple twist of a button, each audience was able to choose different channel via distributed radio device. The designer used a theatre ladder from lighting department to lift a salvo of 12 guns, which were set to fire every 20 minutes by high-pressure gas during the performance.
The unexpected loud sound interrupted all the story telling.
Maybe it was a sudden scolding
Or, a compliment, a celebration …
