Design Statement

The set of “Cosi fan tutte” shows today's restoration workshop for paintings. During the work, the restorers are confronted with the ideal illusion of the rococo paintings. Overwhelmed with emotion the couples on the stage and the audience are dunking into the historical scenes. An incredible love game takes its course. At the point of culmination a romantic painting transforms into a real rococo garden. From there the couples are catapulted back into nowadays reality.
The set offers with a multi-layered architecture many places for the couples. They meet each other on balconies, in back-rooms, in corners, in the archive or in the main room. An abundance of probs make the stage to a playground for the actors. Changing paintings and enlarged details modify the stage continuously.
