Design Statement

The stage design for Kunqu Opera the Peony Pavilion is abstractive and simple against a white background. Therefore, the lighting design will create better results on a white stage. The changeful stage lightings display different scenes and show the transition of emotions. The changes in lighting work for the virtuality of the performance and the freedom of time and space in the Peony Pavilion, ensuring that actors and actresses stand out at any time on the stage. Everything is shown or concealed at the right time, corresponding with the inner heart of the characters and bringing the audience into the show.
