Design Statement

“This Key doesn’t Have a door anymore” is a sitespecific performance by the Mexican group Pared Blanca, based on a documentary research that includes experiences shared and testimonies from residents of Rancho Santa Catarina. This project was aimed to make this anonymous community visible by integrating it into our reality as a means of reconstructing the social fabric.
In order to translate this research to the stage, it was necessary to generate a non fictional approach which faces the audience directly with the event, working as a linking space that encourages dialogue among the participants. By appropriating and manipulating space, I propose the redimension and intervention of a citywaste: the shell of a house, which is both a metaphor and an opposition to the giganticness and violence of large cities; on the other hand, an artistic mean to modify established audience cultural routines as a form of social resistance.
