Design Statement

“This Key doesn’t Have a door anymore” is a sitespecific performance by the Mexican group Pared Blanca, based on a documentary research that includes experiences shared and testimonies from residents of Rancho Santa Catarina. This project was aimed to make this anonymous community visible by integrating it into our reality as a means of reconstructing the social fabric.
In order to translate this research to the stage, it was necessary to generate a non fictional approach which faces the audience directly with the event, working as a linking space that encourages dialogue among the participants. By appropriating and manipulating space, I propose the redimension and intervention of a citywaste: the shell of a house, which is both a metaphor and an opposition to the giganticness and violence of large cities; on the other hand, an artistic mean to modify established audience cultural routines as a form of social resistance.

As a scenographer born in Mexico City, she studied Scenography Bachelor Degree at ENAT (National Theatre School) of the National Institute of Fine Arts.
She has developed her creative work and training with important mexican directors and scenographers as Mauricio Jiménez, Alberto Lomnitz, Emma Dib, Alain Kerriou, Mónica Raya and collaborated in special Productions with UNAM (National Autonomus University of Mexico) and INBA (National Institute of Fine Arts).
As a founding member and Artistic Director of the independent group "Pared Blanca", in which she explores scenographic intervention in alternative spaces since 2008, she explores scenography as environment and linking space, creating the scenic projects: “Las Ropas Nuevas del Rey” (The King's New Clothes), “¡Patos! Historias Desgraznadas” (¡Ducks! Disgraced Stories) and “Esta Llave ya no tiene Puerta” (This key doesn´t have a door anymore).
Besides working with her group, she is professor at UNAM (National Autonomus University of Mexico) since 2000. She is deeply interested in developing collective work, so she started to work with some mexican groups as the performance lab "Cromos de la Niebla" and “Festinalente”. She has also done collaborative art projects with the performance art troupe "La Pocha Nostra”.
She has exposed at the Mexican Pavilion at Prague Quadrennial 2015. She has begun lectures of her scenographic investigation in some Mexican Art Universities since 2016.
