Design Statement
The play is adapted from Thornton Wilder's Our Town. It takes place in Anping, a small town in Taiwan, from 1975 to 1987. After meeting with the director, we decided to make theater itself a film studio in which Anping is set up. The actors are therefore not only theater performers but also film makers. I used many unpainted wooden flats to construct three house-shaped walls that surround the central stage. Those raw wooden walls become the essence of this play, which in a way reflect the nature of Anping.

Po-Lin Li
Po-Lin Li is a set designer who works in theater, opera, and live events. He received his BA in theatre and drama from National Taiwan University, and his M.F.A. from Yale School of Drama. His design credits include: Questioning Heaven (Taiwan Bangzi Opera Company), The Edge of Heaven (Perfect Match Company), Yoko (Puppet and Its Double Theatre), Hamlet, Bent, Our Town, How I Learnt to Drive (Tainaner Ensemble), Noises off (TNUA), Twelfth Night (NTU), August: Osage County (Greenray Theatre Company), The Pillowman (Ren-Xing Cooperative), Death and Maiden (Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center) and Romeo and Juliet(Yale Repertory Theatre).
