Design Statement

The production was created for the 120-th anniversary of Chekhov's play, in the very place where it was written. Space of Chekhov's estates in Melikhovo, as in a mirror, is reflected in the places of action of the play. Therefore, our task was to materialize the past, present and future of this substance with the name of "The Seagull". In the prologue, the audience had the opportunity to enter into a small outbuilding and touch the green fabric of writer's work desk. Then, they go on a journey from the past to the future: from civilization оf Word - to the civilization of digits. Between the third and the fourth the action takes place 120 years and that at the beginning of the play was a living reality - in the fourth act is transformed into museum exhibits inside the “Chroma key pavilion”. Verbal tissue of plays break down into numbers, as in the theater of the absurd Eugen Ionescu.
