Daniel Belton (Director/Designer/Choreographer/Film Maker/Visual Artist/Sound Artist) originates from a visual arts and contemporary dance background. He is a scholarship graduate of the New Zealand School of Dance. Daniel performed with theatre luminaries such as Kim Brandstrup, Irek Mukhamedov, Lindsay Kemp, Vicente Saez, Aletta Collins, Elio Gervasi and Douglas Wright. As an independent artist he has established an international reputation for his choreography and film. Daniel has directed over 35 projects since founding the acclaimed New Zealand group "Good Company Arts" with Donnine Harrison in 1997. Commissions have included the Royal New Zealand Ballet, Genius Loci Weimar Video Mapping Festival, Zentrum Paul Klee, Cinedans, Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires, Attakkalari India Biennial, Oceanic Performance Biennial, and Aarhus Festival, Denmark. He was awarded the New Zealand Arts Council’s first Choreographic Research Residency at Otago University, and later appointed Media Artist in Residence at Massey University. In 2010 Daniel was awarded the Creative New Zealand Choreographic Fellowship. Invitations to present his work have been participatation at the Prague Quadrennial, Festival Internacional de la Imagen, Bibliothèque et Archives Nationales du Québec, Bauhaus University Weimar, Ryerson University, Leeds Beckett University, Codarts, xm:lab and NOW DanceSaar Festival, Romaeuropa Festival, Millennium Performing Arts London, World Stage Design Festival, Sound Islands Symposium Singapore, Tokyo Denki University, Immaginare La Danza with Sapienza University Rome and K8 in Germany.
