Voices and Dances of the Distant Land, A Folkish Crossover: Folk Songs and Dances, with A Cappella Singing. Hong Kong Dance Company collaborates with Yat Po Singers, a local a cappella group well-loved by the young audience for their witty, theatrical performances, in a creative remaking of the most vibrant, ecstatic Chinese folk songs and dances.
This show is collaborated with cappella singing and would like to giving the audience a very different view of Chinese Folk song, by using the Chinese Folk song which arrange with a new musical arrangement, it having a rich nuances of latter-day music genres like pop, rock and jazz woven with the whole atmosphere.
The theme of the design is inspire by “drawing on to a pieces of paper” because this show which woven with richness of modern, city and energy; it just like a picture or drawing in a metropolitan city, or you like sitting in the cafe and looking out of the window you see the various scenarios in the street, having lovely couple passing by, tired people crossing the street after a full day working, or little young boys and girls running in the street everything are not connecting but they happen in the same time and same place. I want to capture the collage of city light. I want to explore a moving pieces to dance with the dancers and giving the impression of the set can according to the various mood change and changing it’s shape and form, sometimes it becoming the cloud in the sky, sometimes it becoming the decoration in the disco, sometimes it becoming the hill and becoming the fog covering the stage.
