Design Statement

Our design approach was sparked by Falstaff’s love of vice which we manifested through wine casks. By expounding on this theme we created an enormous wine cask as the container of our space to locate all the scenes within. We wanted to capture a playful spirit and lightness to the components that create the specificity of space. The animal topiaries in Ford’s Garden are a perfect example of elements that embraced this spirit and simply communicated location within the greater. These elements being revealed by the center cask and the a vista transitions such as the trees or stairs for Ford’s house pushing into the space enabled a mellifluous flow that was in unison with and enhanced by Verdi’s beautifully bright and energetic music.
