Design Statement

How can one embody eroticism, erotic exercise of power? How to give these figures credible sexes?
Complexion! The costumes are the missing nakedness. Print on canvas, nude bodies. Each role has specific fabric. Hands for servants, toes for guards. For Poppea, nipples as flowers, hand like a wing in her train, into which she can wrap herself up to feel safe. For masculine men, phalluses. Biggest canvas for the most influential – a train or a cape can be a tool for expression.
The costumes are shaped straight on bodies, avoiding seams. A variety of shapes, a variety of ways to use and modify the garment on stage. Possibility for Intimacy. Indications of antiquity, draped evening dresses, scarves, knots. Organic shapes.
Seamless costumes, seamless co-operation with trusted dressmaker Johanna Ilmarinen! The design and implementation went hand in hand, influenced by each other, supporting each other.
The development of costumes continued on stage, in hands of performers and the director.
