Costume design and scenography, are disciplines with one foot in the discourse of performing arts and one foot in the discourse of design, fine art and architecture. Costume design is a field of study that is sometimes organized at the theatre department, sometimes at the design or fine arts department. Where the costume study is located, seems more as a result of tradition than of a critical discussion on what is necessary in order to educate competent costume designers. Wherever the location is, there is a need for securing access to being a part of both discourses and to access both fields of knowledge. Based on her experience as costume designer, scenographer and educator, the presenter will share with the participants her thoughts and a ‘competence list’ for costume designers as a basis for discussion.

Speaker

Christina Lindgren has designed costume and scenography for performances in all genres. She was educated at Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHIO) and Universität der Künste, Berlin. She is Professor in Costume Design at the KHIO.
